Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that recent strikes on Russian data centres have significantly reduced social media bot activity. According to reports, Yandex’s automated traffic dropped by 94% following the attacks.
However, experts suggest the traffic decline likely reflects widespread service outages rather than a direct reduction in bot posting rates. The strikes appear to have disrupted infrastructure rather than specifically targeting bot networks, meaning the effect may be temporary once services are restored.
The incident highlights the role of data centres in maintaining online operations, including both legitimate traffic and automated bot activity across social platforms.
